Reusable packaging

We are currently in the process of scoping two projects in the reusable packaging industry. Our current assessment of the value chain of various types of food packaging has triggered us to engage in pockets of the current process to improve efficiency and results. Why? First step to sustainability for many has been recyclability and recycled content. This in our view is the correct and scalable step. This is then followed by consciousness of reducing waste and reducing those elements of packaging we cannot recycle. In the process of this assessment many have come to realize there is a part of packaging which can be re-used.

Reusable packaging is currently actively being promoted and used in various in-home and out -of-home applications. For instance, take your own mug to your corner coffee shop or use a reusable beer glass at the concert this weekend.

Adoption has been easier, and seen success, in out of home applications with a captive location where consumption is completed on site and hence the packaging used can be left behind. Based on our research thus far hygiene and food safety, convenience and levels of adoption are some of the key factors that will drive for more reusable packaging sustainably. Our projects are targeted at scaling the current solutions effectively and traceably.

More on these projects will follow once we have formalized the partnerships that are currently in the scouting and structuring phases of our process grid.
