The goal is to develop and scale semi-automation equipment to enhance productivity in e-commerce delivery, specifically focusing on improving packing efficiency and speed for padded paper mailers and bags. This equipment must be compatible with existing padded paper mailers, as designed by BridgeInsight and partners, for sustainability and tamper-proof protection.

As e-commerce demand grows, the need for labor efficiency and automation in packaging is rising, especially after the pandemic. With businesses shifting towards sustainable materials, like paper mailers, there’s a productivity gap in manual packaging speeds per minute. As regulations such as PPWR push for waste reduction and correct-sized packaging, the market is transitioning more to paper mailers with a growth of over 30% is some categories.

In Europe and parts of North America, there is an estimated potential of gaining 53% of efficiency, on site, by automating tasks like mailer opening, labelling, sealing mailers and bringing forward the next mailer for the operator.
